SongSlide Inc. Business Information
SongSlide is a privately funded Washington corporation formed in 2006. Run by co-owners
John Hurd and Scott Burkhalter. Part of the mission of the company is to promulgate
the use of “consumer-generated pricing” for digital media, especially for digital
music downloads for independent musicians. (Also in 2006, the co-founders filed
a patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office covering
their inventions related to consumer-generated pricing.)
Consumer-Generated Pricing
As a new model for pricing digital media, consumer-generated pricing at first glance
seems counter-intuitive: Why would anyone pay more for something? The answer, of
course, lies in the nature of the relationship between the buyer and the seller.
For independent musicians, their fans often have a passionate and supportive relationship
to the musicians and their music. Paying more for a download is similar to leaving
some extra cash in the tip jar at a local performance.
